Content

This is a creative, practical course which allows students opportunities to generate and develop ideas, research primary and contextual sources, record practical and written observations, experiment with media and processes and refine towards producing personal resolved outcomes.

Year 12

Through workshops, students get a chance to develop skills and experiment with a range of different media. Students will produce a body of work over two projects in order to explore personal ideas and find ways to express them through appropriate media and processes.

Year 13

Students are supported to work independently through tutorials to develop ideas by exploring a range artists and media. They are encouraged to produce work personal to them. Each project consists of supporting work and at least one final outcome in a media of the student’s choice. Component 1 is accompanied by an essay showing in-depth critical and contextual knowledge.

  1. Component 1: 60% (coursework – Personal Project)
  2. Component 2: 40% (Externally Set Assignment)

Futures

Art and Design is a respected Level 3 qualification which develops your critical and creative thinking. It is a wide ranging course that aims to develop your skills in many specialisms within the arts field. Students who study Art and Design at Level 3 go on to study academic subjects at university and also higher education at specialist art schools.

Teachers are experts in supporting students to create portfolios for applications to courses in the arts and have been very successful. The department also works closely UAL Insights who support with portfolio development. This course equips students with the knowledge and skill base to study Art and Design at a higher level and prepares them for careers in many industries.

In the context of Photography, this course allows students opportunities to generate and develop ideas, research primary and contextual sources, record practical and written observations, experiment with media and photographic processes and refine towards producing personal resolved outcomes.

Year 12

Students get a chance to develop their photographic skills through digital editing and darkroom workshops. Students will produce a body of work over two projects in order to explore personal ideas and find ways to express them through appropriate media and processes.

Year 13

  1. Component 1: 60% (coursework – Personal Project)
  2. Component 2: 40% (Externally Set Assignment)
