 About Our Sixth Form Team

Emily Villegas

Director of Sixth Form

Hampstead School is a very special place with a strong commitment to inclusion and success.  Students at Hampstead School Sixth Form are taught by subject experts who challenge and support them in their learning.  Each faculty area has a dedicated Key Stage 5 coordinator who works alongside the Sixth Form Team to monitor progress, ensuring that all students stay on track.  Students have excellent working relationships with their teachers and achieve excellent results.

Sixth form is not just about preparing for exams or securing your future; it is a time for growth and discovery where you will begin to shape your ambitions and explore your passions.  Students are encouraged and supported in taking full advantage of the opportunities around them which is why we have so many students participating in prestigious programmes such as those studying at the Google AI Campus and those participating in the Future Leaders Programme run in partnership with Oxford University.

Our students leave Hampstead School Sixth Form ready to navigate the challenges of the world and compete on a global stage.  They progress onto a wide range of exciting destinations including Russell Group Universities and highly sought after Apprenticeships.  Students benefit from a specialised careers programme and during their time in Sixth Form will complete work experience, meet with employers and have 1:1 interviews with a careers advisor.

Joining Sixth Form is an exciting new chapter in your academic journey.  Choosing the right Sixth Form for you is an important decision and one that we hope to be able to support you with at our open evening in November.

Elly Mellish

Head of Year 12

Everyone, whether new to the school, or already here, is assured of a warm welcome to the Sixth Form. As Head of Year 12, I take the greatest of pleasure in guiding students on their short but pivotal two-year journey into adulthood, whilst being fully committed to their academic and personal development.

Students appreciate the outstanding care and guidance they receive throughout their course and when considering their future choices. We set out to develop in our young people, the attitudes and skills they need for continued achievement, not only in higher education but throughout their lives. We expect students to work hard and take responsibility, but we do not expect them to do it on their own. We support students at every stage; and continually assess progress throughout their course.

Hampstead School creates strong partnerships with business and education providers which results in fantastic opportunities for students.  Partnerships with global organisations such as VML, have led to work experience, placements and apprenticeships from some incredible employers.

By offering a wide range of extra-curricular activities such as the opportunity to undertake an EPQ, attending lectures from a wide range of guest speakers and participation in sports and community challenges, we invest in all aspects of student development, nurturing the maximum potential of each student, no matter their abilities or interests.

Here at Hampstead, we ensure all students understand their levels and the next steps for attainment so that they are able to develop into independent learners and high attainers that will develop into future leaders.

Jacob Lowery

HEAD OF YEAR 13

I started my teaching career in 2013, working at a school in Berkshire for four years before joining Hampstead School in September 2017 as Subject Leader for Computing & IT. I joined the Sixth Form team in 2019 as one of the Sixth Form tutors. Since then, I have become one of the Heads of Year for the Sixth Form, supporting students in navigating the joys and challenges  of Post-16 education.

Sixth Form is an exciting time in a student’s educational journey, a time when students can truly find their passion. Whether this is through discussions in lesson time or taking advantage of many exciting super-curricular activities that are offered, it is a time when students are really challenged and need to think outside the box, supporting them to become lifelong learners and experts in the fields they pursue when they leave us.

As a Sixth Form we strive to support students as they start this journey. We do this through employing a wide range of staff who are experts in the fields, building and maintaining connections with employers and  keeping our curriculum current and relevant to our students' future careers.

My advice to students is don’t choose a subject just because you think you can get a job in the field. Choose a subject because you enjoy it. This will open up many more avenues for you in the future. If you are going to be working in a sector for your entire career, it should be something you love to do.
